The Delaware Technical Community College Terry Campus dedicated a POW/MIA Chair of Honor on Nov. 6, joining the Rolling Thunder Inc. POW/MIA Chair of Honor Program, which is intended to bring daily reminders of POW/MIA issues.
The dedication ceremony featured remarks by William R. “Bill” Farley, chairman of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, and a 21-gun salute from a Dover Air Force Base Honor Guard. The unveiling of the chair was performed by Brig. Gen. Ernest G. Talbert Jr. and Lester Link.
Link, a recently retired Delaware Tech employee and Vietnam veteran, initiated the discussion on having a chair dedicated on campus, and he covered the cost of installation and display signage.
The chair, donated by Hussey Seating, is black with the POW/MIA logo on it and is to remain perpetually empty to help people remember that even though our soldiers are not here, there is still a space for them. Although the ceremony took place at the center of campus, the chair will be permanently placed in the vestibule of the school’s Terry Building.
