Dover's police department hopes to make the holidays a little brighter for city children
Dover police are launching a GoFundMe effort to raise money for their annual Holiday Heroes Program.
“The temperatures are dropping, days are shorter, and the leaves are changing which also means the holiday season is quickly approaching,” department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said. “While this time of year is certainly joyous for most, there are many families that simply do not have the means to provide gifts for their children.”
The Holiday Heroes program is an effort by Dover’s law enforcement community to provide a little Christmas cheer for children in the city.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, Holiday Heroes teams up a child with a Dover police officer so they can go shopping for gifts at the Dover Target store. In 2016, the department was able to help 60 children from our area and provide them with a Christmas they likely would not have had.
The department is launching a public fundraising campaign through the GoFundMe site to raise $5,000 by Dec. 1. Donations may be made online at www.gofundme.com/dpdkids or by calling or emailing Hoffman at
