Victim identified as Dan M. Cochran IV of Lewes
UPDATE: The victim of a fatal boating accident Saturday, Oct. 28, on the Broadkill River near Oyster Rocks Road, has been identified as 62-year-old Dan M. Cochran IV of Lewes.
Cochran, who had been kayaking alone, was located in early afternoon by a couple boating in the area. They initially observed an empty kayak and then noticed the victim floating nearby. The body was recovered by the Lewes Fire Department and turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
An investigation conducted by DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police and Delaware State Police. The accident remains under investigation by Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police.
Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered floating in the Broadkill River Saturday afternoon.
Around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, a couple boating in the Broadkill River, in the area north of Oyster Rocks Road near Milton, discovered an empty kayak, a cooler and then a body floating in the water. Delaware State Troopers, Department of Natural Resources Fish and Wildlife Officers and fire personnel responded to the area.
The body of an adult male was removed from the scene and turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science in order to confirm the deceased's identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
