A man’s body was recovered early the morning of Sunday, Oct. 29 from the waters of the Delaware Bay near Port Mahon.

Little Creek Fire Department Fire Chief Michael Scott Bundek said the Kent County Emergency Communications Center received a call at about 4:56 a.m. about a man in the water. Witnesses told Bundek the 30-year-old last had been seen near the fishing pier.

A marine rescue boat from Little Creek began a search around the pier and the Delaware pipeline and storage dock, with the assistance of a boat from the Leipsic fire company probing the shoreline.

About 54 minutes after the 911 call, a family member walking along the shoreline found the body; the man was pulled from the water and pronounced dead by Kent County emergency personnel.

The remains were turned over the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, and Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.

A marine unit from the Bowers fire company also assisted in the search, Bundek said.
