Khalil-Mahl T. Hanzer, 23, has been arrested in conjunction with a shooting that took place Sept. 1.
A Magnolia man, identified as Khalil-Mahl T. Hanzer, 23, has been arrested in conjunction with a shooting and assault that took place Friday, Sept. 1.
Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the incident took place in Building K of the Alder Park apartments at 51 Webbs Lane.
As troopers and officers from Dover Police Department arrived on the scene, some people and vehicles were spotted fleeing the area. Police learned a party had been taking place when a fight started between Hanzer and a 21-year-old man who Hanzer allegedly hit in the forearm with a handgun. Hanzer allegedly also hit a 20-year-old woman in the forehead with the weapon and a 20-year-old man in the back of the head, also with the handgun.
Hanzer fired the weapon inside the apartment at least once, Fournier said.
The woman and 20-year-old man were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus and released; it is not known if the first victim sought medical help, Fournier added. There were no other reported injuries.
The investigation turned up Hanzer as the suspect, and he was taken into custody by detectives Tuesday, Oct. 17 when he was spotted leaving a home, also at Alder Park.
Police found a 9 mm handgun after searching the apartment, Fournier said.
He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with obliterated serial number, three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of first-degree reckless endangering and three counts of aggravated menacing.
Hanzer is being held at the Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, on a $154,000 cash bond.
