Barrett Kidner, of Dover, board chairman of the Support Our Soldiers Foundation, presented a $5,000 check to Sam Cannan from the Foundation’s Grant Fund at the ribbon cutting of the Veterans Watchmaker Initiative in Odessa on Oct. 13.
Cannan, a retired Baltimore police officer and Swiss-trained watchmaker who also resides in Dover, has devoted himself to giving disabled veterans an opportunity unhampered by physical or other disabilities. His goal is to train, house and feed his veteran students at no cost to them. The cost of training and residence at the facility will be underwritten by the watchmaking industry, grants, and private donations.
Support Our Soldiers Foundation has made financial grants to veterans support groups totaling more than $100,000 and is working on a project of its own that will be announced in coming weeks.
