Non-profit plans annual gala Oct. 19.

Attack Addiction will honor Dr. Karyl Rattay, Director of the Delaware Division of Public Health, at its annual gala on Oct. 19.

Attack Addiction is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group created in memory of Tyler Armstrong Keister after his accidental overdose. The organization’s goal is to help young people realize the dangers of alcohol and drugs so that they and their families never have to experience the pain, tragedy and loneliness that accompany addiction.

The group, with chapters in all three counties, conducts and participates in speaking and awareness events in schools, organizations, and communities across the state. It also developed a monthly "Reality Tour" educational program for adolescents and their parents in New Castle County, and it operates three transitional homes for recovering addicts. In addition, the group has lobbied extensively for legislation aimed at tackling the opioid crisis. It helped pass the state’s Good Samaritan law, as well as legislation that expanded the availability of naloxone, a drug which helps save lives by reversing the effects of an overdose.

The annual gala will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Executive Banquet Center, 205 Executive Drive, Newark.
