Delaware was not in the path of Hurricane Irma, but the First State took a major hit from Hurricane Hazel Oct. 15, 1954. The storm killed four in the First State including 70-year-old Doverite John Hulinek, who died when a chicken house collapsed on him. The storm destroyed the Dover National Guard Armory; it was replaced with a modern structure that stands today.

Dover turns 300 this year. A new photo every Thursday.
