There may be delays getting on base today, Sept. 12

Dover AFB is conducting an active shooter exercise Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Due to the exercise, access to the installation and facilities will be limited during the day. Personnel can expect significant delays at the gates but access to the base housing area will not be affected.

Dover AFB units have partnered with Delaware State Police in planning the exercise to ensure proper execution. Throughout the day, multiple police vehicles from Delaware State Police will be responding to the base for the exercise.

“This exercise is geared at testing our emergency response plans and our communication within and outside of the base,” Maj. Christopher Smith, 436th Airlift Wing Chief of Exercises. “Conducting these types of exercises ensures that if an active shooter were here at Dover AFB, our team is adequately prepared to respond to it efficiently and safely.”

Dover AFB is required by Air Force and Secretary of Defense directives to hold two active shooter exercises each year.
