The ninth annual Veterans Stand Down will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Schutte Park, 10 Electric Ave., Dover.

Stand downs are events for veterans who need assistance. The stand down is one of the annual projects carried out by the Veterans Awareness Center Foundation in Greenwood, a 501(c)(3) created by Liz Byers-Jiron, her husband, Bill, and their daughter, Mindy. Other foundation veteran outreach activities include a women veterans tea and providing turkey dinners for Thanksgiving and holiday packages at Christmas.

More than 114 presenters will provide basic services, information on benefits, clothing, housing, toiletry kits, a hot meal and services from the Veterans Administration, barbers, dentists, a mobile medical van, flu shots, behavioral health, suicide prevention, legal advice and services from the motor vehicle department. A DJ will provide music.

More than 1,100 people attended the 2016 event at the Walter Fox Post in Dover.

Retired Gen. Frank Vavala, Delaware’s former adjutant general, will provide opening remarks.
