Roger L. Coberly was walking his dog when he was killed.
Officers with the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit have identified the victim of a Tuesday night hit and run crash as Roger L. Coberly Jr. of Felton.
Division spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said Coberly, 35, was out walking his dog, headed westbound on the shoulder of Willow Grove Road when he was hit by an unknown make or model vehicle. The impact threw Coberly into a tax ditch on the north side of the roadway near his home.
The vehicle continued on westbound without stopping, Fournier said, adding it may have driven across the nearby border into Maryland.
Coberly was pronounced dead at the scene, he added. The dog was not injured and ran back to Coberly’s home.
Police are continuing their investigation, Fournier said.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run pedestrian crash.
Division spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the incident occurred around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the area of the 1000 block of Willow Grove Road, east of Sandtown Road.
Fournier said a pedestrian was hit by a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have no description of the car, which fled toward the west on State Route 10, possibly into Maryland.
More details will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation, Fournier said.
