A Dover-area man, identified by police as Carmelo Diaz, 54, of the first block of Kentwood Drive, Dover, has been jailed following his arrest in connection with two burglaries.
Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said the case began Friday, Aug. 18 when a home in the 200 block of Rustic Lane was burglarized. Police learned someone had broken into a garage after smashing a window; assorted power tools and lawn equipment were taken.
Troopers were called back to the home two days later after the garage again was burglarized; this time additional power tools, lawn equipment and fishing gear were taken.
Through their investigations, troopers identified Diaz as a suspect and went to his home Aug. 21, where property unit detectives executed a search warrant and found property linked to both burglaries.
Diaz is a charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of theft and criminal mischief. He was ordered held at the Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, on a $6,500 secured bail.
