The businesses are about 3.5 miles apart.

The Dover Police Department is investigating two early morning burglaries in the city.

Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the first took place at about 12:31 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Sally Beauty Supply at 283 N. Dupont Highway.

Officers responding to an alarm arrived to find the burglars had used a rock to break the front glass door and take a cash drawer from the register.

Less than a half-hour later, at 12:55 a.m., officers were sent to the DOT Discount store at 321 Independence Boulevard, Hoffman said. In this case, the suspects used a rock to smash the front door glass door and took the cash drawer as well as two cartons of Newport cigarettes.

Both stores are a little more than 3.5 miles from each other.

Hoffman said police have determined the same two people committed both burglaries. Both are described only as men wearing dark clothing with hoods pulled over their faces and wearing gloves.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Dover police at 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips also may be submitted through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333, online at or through the Dover Police Department MyPD app.
