Kim Petters, president of the Women's Veterans Collective, was guest speaker at the July 24 bimonthly meeting of the Delaware Veterans Coalition.

Petters served in the U.S. Air Force from 2002 to 2012 in medical administration and public health. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education and associate's degrees in allied health, public health and liberal arts. The Women's Veterans Collective was created by four female veterans to create a community network and to serve as advocates for female veterans.

She addressed the lack of women health providers at some Veterans Affairs facilities, a growing suicide rate, homelessness that is outpacing their male counterparts and women discharged related to post traumatic stress disorder. WVC accepts women veterans regardless of the reason for discharge. She and her husband, Wade, also a veteran, are the parents of four children.
