The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is seeking to hire two qualified interns to help with agency business process improvement initiatives from the Department’s Lean Management Strategy that is streamlining service delivery to agency customers through new technology and a continuous improvement effort taking place throughout DNREC.
The interns will help expand DNREC’s continuous improvement effort, which includes training coaches and facilitators in every program to guide major improvements to agency business and administrative processes. The interns will be part of DNREC’s Office of the Secretary team and will support agency projects that improve agency work practices, establish common business processes, increase efficiency and take advantage of information technology upgrades.
Since Lean reviews began in 2005, DNREC has improved the performance of various agency programs by applying process improvement tools and techniques. The department subsequently reduced air permitting turnaround times by 50 percent and eliminated a major backlog. Lean reviews also helped reduce brownfield remediation processing time by nearly 45 percent.
DNREC’s process improvement and Lean management practices also align with Gov. John Carney’s commitment to increase efficiency and effectiveness in state government.
