Delaware boxing champion Dave Tibieri was the guest speaker at the Dover Capital City Rotary Club’s April 6 lunch meeting.

More than 25 years ago, Tiberi challenged undefeated world middleweight champion James Toney for his title at Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City. Although the split decision on ABC Wide World of Sports deprived Tiberi of the title, the events that followed resulted in legislation that created health and safety benefits for fighters across the nation.

Tiberi, who has been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Delaware and Pennsylvania, displayed his International Boxing Council Super Middleweight Title belt. He is president of Emergency Response Protocol, a security company serving a multi-state area. He can be reached at dtiberi@erpsafety.com.

Dover Capital City Rotary meets each Thursday for lunch at Maple Dale Country Club, 180 Mapledale Road.
