About 7:40 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Clearfield apartment complex, Javan Cale was involved in a shootout with two other people and Cale was shot multiple times in the torso.

A 31-year-old man was killed Tuesday night in an apparent gunfight in Dover.

Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the shooting took place at about 7:40 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Clearfield apartment complex at 120 Haman Drive.

The investigation showed that Javan Cale was involved in a shootout with two other people and that Cale was shot multiple times in the torso. Cale also fired several rounds at the two suspects, Hoffman said.

The shooters fled toward the west from the apartment building but police have been unable to get a description.

Cale died after being rushed to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Hoffman said.

Cale’s death is the first homicide for the city in 2017.
