Voters are encouraged to attend the Candidates Night debate in the Bank of America Building Auditorium.
Voters are encouraged to attend the Candidates Night debate from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Bank of America Building Auditorium, 1200 N. Dupont Highway, Dover.
This event will be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Delaware, the American Association of University Women and WDSU Radio, ”the Hive,” DSU’s closed-circuit, campus radio station. The list of invited candidates includes those running for U.S. representative, governor of Delaware, lieutenant governor of Delaware and Delaware insurance commissioner.
Members of the audience will be given index cards at the entry door and throughout the program on which to pose their questions directly to the candidates. The League of Women Voters will moderate the debate. This event provides area residents the opportunity to learn where the candidates stand on issues of major concern.
The League of Women Voters is required to abide by regulations of the Federal Elections Commission, the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for nonpartisan groups sponsoring appearances of candidates for elective office.
Consequently, should only one candidate for a particular office be present, the organization cannot provide the opportunity for him or her to address the audience in the formal debate. Candidates affected by these regulations are encouraged to attend the event and meet informally with constituents prior to and after the program.
