Dover police continue to look into early-morning incident.
Dover police are working to identify the assailants in weekend shooting at about 1:04 a.m. Oct. 16 at the Wawa store at 1450 Forrest Avenue, Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.
Police went to the gas station after hearing the gunfire and stopped an SUV seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The occupants told the officers they fled after someone had fired a gun at them as a fight was about to start in the store parking lot.
A short time later, police went to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital after learning a 21-year-old man was being treated there for a gunshot wound to the right elbow. Hoffman said the gunshot victim told officers he had been shot while pumping gas and had been taken to the hospital by friends.
