Here are three fun events to dive into.
1. Satisfying Dogfish Head Brewpub & Eats’ appetite for rock-n-roll is the trio The Head.
The Georgia-based band released the EP “Millipedes” in 2015. The project is oozing with old-school rock and pristine sound production. You can download the EP for free at thehead.bandcamp.com.
The Head will share the stage with Happy Abandon.
The rocking-good time is coming to Dogfish Head, 320 Rehoboth Ave., in Rehoboth Beach at 10 p.m., Friday. COST Free. INFO dogfish.com or call 226-2739.
2. The splendor and grace of ballet is beautifully captured in “Swan Lake.”
It’s a romantic tale. Odette, a woman placed under a spell, has transformed into the Swan Queen. The only way she can break the curse is if one who has never loved before declares their love to her.
First State Ballet Theatre will present two stagings of “Swan Lake” at The Grand, 818 N. Market St., in Wilmington at 7 p.m., Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday. COST $15 to $50. INFO thegrandwilmington.org or call (800) 37-GRAND.
3. The mind is a battlefield and Edgar Allan Poe was a pro at waging war on the psyche. He has many victories under his belt, too.
Poe’s chilling poems will be recited at the Smyrna Opera House, built in 1869, 20 years after the poet’s death.
The historic theater will provide atmosphere for the poet’s haunted imagination in “A Terrifyingly Good Time: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe.”
This is a fundraiser for the Smyrna-Clayton Heritage Association John W. Dickinson Memorial Scholarship fund.
The Master of Macabre’s spirit will get conjured up at the Opera House, 7 W. South St., in Smyrna at 7:30 p.m., Friday. COST $8 general admission; $5 children under 12. INFO smyrnaoperahouse.org or call 653-4236.
