To a military veteran, a youngster’s simple “Thank you” can be worth more than a chest full of medals. A handful of veterans got the chance to hear those thanks, and to tell students what life in uniform is all about during a special Veterans Day afternoon, held Nov. 12 at the Campus Community Schools.

Delaware Technical & Community College’s Terry Campus is home to 1,377 students who are 26 or older. That’s 41% of the campus population. From 2000 to 2006, college enrollment has increased by 17%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Schools are figuring out how to reach all of those 20.5 million students, even the ones who thought they might never get to college, while those older and wiser students file in.

A new report from the Delaware Population Consortium shows growth is expected to slow in Kent County following several years of rapid expansion and building. The consortium’s annual population projections, released last month, also predict the state’s total population could top 1 million by 2025.
