The Green Thumb Garden Club will hold the following classes at the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover:
Growing grass from seed, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Tom Dix will give participants his sure fire tricks for getting grass to grow even on poor soil. The best time to plant grass in Delaware is from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15. This is a great class for a one who cuts grass and knows very little about grass. Grass pests and diseases will not be covered during class. Bring pictures and samples for an after class session.
Fall planting of bulbs for spring flowers, 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the greenhouse.
Rexine Ornauer, a Master Gardener perennial expert, will take participants through all the spring plants normally called bulbs. She will show and tell all different ways you can plant these easy to grow plants.
Pruning and shaping trees and shrubs, 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the West Conference Room.
Master gardener John Trivits will visit from Sussex County for a class on the proper way prune trees and shrubs. Bring pictures of trees or shrubs.
Bus trip to Master Gardener Wendy Aycoth’s house for gathering seeds and thinning out perennials, 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. Cost is $2.50.
Bring plastic bags to carry all the cuttings and seeds. Listen to her tell you many stories about the various plants in the outdoor rooms of her garden. This the last gardening class at Modern Maturity for the year.
Cost for the four classes is $4. Those students that had previous registered for the year are exempt from this fee. All others should go to the Modern Maturity Center customer desk to register.
