A 51-year-old Dover man was killed following a late night motorcycle crash outside the city.

The accident occurred at 9:20 p.m. July 2, on West Denney’s Road, west of Kenton Road, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton. The deceased man was identified as Michael N. Papillo.

Newton said Papillo was driving his Harley Davidson westbound on West Denney’s Road when he came to a curve, crossed the centerline and drove off the south edge of the road. The motorcycle sideswiped a utility pole, then hit a fencepost.

Papillo, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown over the handlebars and into the grass, Newton said.

Papillo was pronounced dead at the scene.
