Jouster Reese Buchman of Big Buc Signs hits Bubba Feague of The Three Stooges during the final battle for first and second place at Sunday’s annual Canoe Joust to benefit the Bowers Fire Company. Buchman of Magnolia and his teammates Ryan Sexton of Bowers Beach, to his right, and BJ Conrad of Harrington, to his left, took first, while Feague of Bowers Beach and Buddy Haynes of Houston, back of canoe, and Tyler Krabill of Frederica, front of canoe, placed second.

The Dover Dirties, front canoe, consisting of jouster Matt Junkins, front paddler Rachel Martin and back paddler Ricky Harris, all of Dover, battle members of the Pond Scum team. The Scum is made up of jouster Jack Mace of Kitts Hummock, front paddler Steve Shaeffer of Dover and back paddler Jamie Jackson of Bowers Beach. The Dover Dirties, a team whose members are all members of the U.S. Air Force, took third place.
Judge Jeff Morris of the Bowers Beach Fire Department and Raymond Hughes of Sacramento, Calif., undertake some emergency repairs on a jousting pole. Hughes, who is visiting the area, helped out during the joust.
