Woodside, Del. -

It’s been more than five months since Woodside resident Lisa Mumford was last seen, and her family is desperate to find her.

Her sons and their father, Mumford’s estranged husband, have posted flyers throughout central and lower Kent County, displaying photographs of the missing woman and pleading for someone to let them know if she’s been seen.

So far, however, their entreaties and a determined police investigation have turned up virtually nothing.

“We’ve had lots of leads about where she may have been,” said Delaware State Police Sgt. Dave Weaver. “We’ve checked wooded areas, and we’ve had our scuba teams in checking ponds. But there have been no results.”

Weaver, a detective with Troop 3 in Camden, has been working the case since Mumford disappeared.

Although Weaver could not discuss details of the ongoing investigation, he said several facts are known.

Mumford had moved to the Meadowbrook Acres area near Woodside with her boyfriend shortly before she disappeared, he said. She had been living near Felton, Weaver said.

Mumford was last seen with her boyfriend May 11 at Stone’s Tavern on Mechanic Street in Harrington. After spending some time together, the boyfriend, who Weaver did not name, told police he left her there and went home.

“He figured she would show up later, but she never did,” Weaver said.

The boyfriend did not report Mumford’s disappearance for weeks because he said she often would stay with friends and not contact him for days, particularly if they’d had an argument.

“However, she’d often have contact with other people in that time frame,” Weaver said. “Even if she didn’t go home for several weeks, someone would have seen her.

“That’s why we’re so concerned. No one has reported seeing her and she hasn’t contacted her mother or visited her children.”

The mother of two, Mumford has been separated from her husband for seven years, Weaver said. The husband has custody and Mumford was allowed to visit her sons on Wednesdays and every other weekend.

The last time the boys saw their mother was on Mother’s Day weekend, May 10, Weaver said.

Weaver said he could not speculate on what might have happened to Mumford, adding police are treating it as an active missing persons case.

However, there has been a recent development.

Troopers are looking for a white man who may have seen Mumford after her boyfriend left the tavern May 11.

The man has close-cut blond or light brown hair, stands approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs approximately 170 pounds and has a devil tattoo on his neck.

He may be driving an early 1990s white or gray four-door Chevrolet Corsica, Weaver added. Police do not have any information on where the car is registered, he said.

“A witness said they had seen this person with Lisa before,” Weaver said. “We want to talk to him and see if he can tell us where he last saw her.”

The state police have reached out to other police agencies and the media in an attempt to garner more information on Mumford’s whereabouts. Weaver believes that because of her children, she would not have voluntarily left the state.

Mumford has blond hair and blue eyes, stands 5 feet 4 inches tall and has blue eyes. She has no distinguishing marks or tattoos and police do not have a description of the clothing she was wearing the night she disappeared.

Anyone with any information on Mumford’s whereabouts or any aspect of this case is asked to call Troop 3 at 697-4454, or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
