November’s First Saturday events will include the usual tours, as well as a living history portrayal about the Civil War, and a musical celebration at the Johnson Victrola Museum.
First Saturday, Nov. 7, programs include:
- Guided Tours of Legislative Hall-Delaware’s Capitol, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tourists will see the House and Senate chambers and learn about the legislature and Delaware history. Photo ID is required for all adults.
- Old State House on The Green, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guided tours through the old capitol building.
- Shipbuilding in the First State, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Delaware Visitor Center and Galleries, 406 Federal St. Exhibit highlights the types of ships built, method of construction, individuals who made a livelihood from building ships, and towns affiliated with production.
- “International Musical Celebration” 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Johnson Victrola Museum, 375 S. New St. Visitors will learn about Victor Talking Machine Company’s manufacturing plants from Australia to the United States and throughout the world. Recordings will highlight the many countries involved and their contributions to the recording industry.
- Tours of the Governor’s House at Woodburn, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 151 Kings Highway. Guided tours of Woodburn and Hall House, the governor’s guest house.
- “A Delaware Soldier’s Life During the Civil War” 10:30 a.m. at Delaware Public Archives, 121 Duke of York St. Sean Protas will portray a Union Army sergeant in the 2nd Delaware Regiment. The presentation will discuss camp life, battle experiences, and weaponry. Protas, a member of the 2nd Delaware Company G Living History Reenactment Unit, presents information on the experience of Brandywine Hundred soldier Sgt. Cyrus Forwood via the letters and diary in the Delaware Public Archives holdings.
- Guided walks of The Green, 2 p.m., meet at First State Heritage Park Visitor Center at the Delaware Public Archives, 121 Duke of York St. Learn about the people and events that left their marks on Dover’s history.
- Biggs Kids, “Gobble, Gobble!” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Biggs Museum of American Art, 406 Federal St. Children 5 to 10 are invited to create a turkey to celebrate Thanksgiving. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call 674-2111.
- Self-guided audio walking tours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free audio wands are available at the First State Heritage Park Visitor Center, located at the Delaware Public Archives, 121 Duke of York St.
