Dover High singers showcased at concert, auction
The Dover High School chorus will shine during its fall benefit concert and silent auction, starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, with refreshments and auction and the concert to follow. Bidders will get their chances at gym memberships, restaurant certificates, Longaberger baskets and more. The event is the main fundraiser for the chorus, and helps offset the cost of their annual competition travel. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students in advance, or $12 for adults and $7 for students at the door. They are available from any chorus member, or by calling the chorus office at 672-1533, ext. 2554.

Strap on some cowboy boots for annual party
The 18th annual Celebration of Tourism is not going to be a dull affair. That’s not possible when there’s the Lone Ranger wandering around and a mechanical bull. The party will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. The western theme means tasty treats like Santa Fe crab cakes and green chili remoulade will tempt attendees, and jeans and boots will be de rigueur. The theme is a tribute to the Kent County tourism attraction of the year, the Delaware State Fair, which will be one of five awardees. Guests will bid on silent auction items including overnight stays, a gift basket from Toppers Spa, golf outings and more, while listening to The Draw, an eight-piece rock dance band. Tickets are $40 in advance, or $50 at the door. For more information, call 734-4888.
