The American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2 Fourth of July parade will kick off at 6 p.m. on Independence Day.
The parade’s theme this year is “The Now Guard,” and the parade marshal is Delaware National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Francis Vavala.
“A bang-up evening gala with the parade, the Delaware National Guard Annual Musical Concert and fireworks is a chance to join in celebration of our nations 233rd birthday party in the First State, where it began,” said former commander Don White, who will appear as Uncle Sam.
Participants from Dover civic, business and government communities, Dover Air Force Base, Delaware National Guard, the American Legion, sister veteran service organizations, Dover Police and fire departments join in this salute to the birth of America. The parade also salutes military heroes and veterans from the Minutemen of the revolution through today’s military men fighting for democracy and freedom in Iraq.
Forty units and floats have signed up for the parade, with White acting as emcee. American flags will be passed out to those who come to see the parade. In addition, more than two dozen American Legion motorcycle riders will take part.
White noted there still is time to sign-up and vie for cash prizes for categories selected by Post 2 and reviewing stand VIPs.
Entries may be made through the city of Dover website at www.cityofdover.com, or by calling 674-3922. Floats must be registered to be allowed into the formation.
