A fire, apparently caused by a halogen lamp coming in contact with a curtain, damaged this townhome on Starboard Court the morning of Sept. 4. The home next door sustained smoke and water damage, while the siding on another home several feet away was warped by the heat. All of the occupants of the buildings escaped without injury.

A fire has severely damaged one Dover townhome, resulting in collateral damage to two others.

The blaze was reported at 8:40 a.m. Sept. 4, at the home in the unit block of Starboard Court off White Oak Road, said Dover Police Department spokesman Lt. Alan Rachko.

Dover Police were the first to arrive on the scene and found flames coming from the one of the homes, Rachko said. One member of the household was treated for smoke inhalation at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, but all made it outside.

Police notified neighbors, at one time forcing their way into another townhome to remove the occupant, who was not injured.

Firefighters with the Dover Fire Department, with assistance from the Little Creek and Cheswold departments, extinguished the fire.

The townhome sustained heavy damage, particularly to the second floor and attic areas; the home immediately adjacent sustained water and smoke damage.

The flames, whipped by early morning winds, were so intense they warped the siding on a second building several feet away.

The fire apparently was caused by a halogen lamp that caught a curtain on fire, Rachko said.

Other than the one case of smoke inhalation, there were no injuries.
