Man charged with attempted escape

Capitol Police in Dover have charged a Harrington man after he allegedly tried to escape from during a court hearing.

The incident took place Sept. 2 in Kent County Superior Court, said Department of Safety and Homeland Security spokeswoman Kimberly Chandler.

The suspect, identified as Antonio J. Vilone, of the 200 block of East St., Harrington, was about to be committed to the Department of Correction when he allegedly ran from the courtroom podium. He allegedly struck two court bailiffs and a probation officer before being restrained, Chandler said.

Vilone was charged with offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, escape after conviction and two counts of offensive touching.

He was jailed at the Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $9,500 bond.

The bailiffs and probation officer were not hurt, Chandler said.
