Wesley College's field hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the Capital Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, it was announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon as voted on by the head coaches.

Salisbury received five of the seven first place votes to take top honors while Christopher Newport took two and rank second in the poll. Mary Washington follows in third, followed by St. Mary's, York (Pa.), the Wolverines and Frostburg State.

The Wolverines, led by Tracey Short who is entering her 20th season as head coach, return 13 letterwinners, including All-CAC performers Lauren Mears at forward, Brooke Gannon on defense and Sarah Daniels in goal. Senior midfielder Devin Price is also back at midfield after earning All-Conference honors two years ago.

Also expected to contribute in a big way are senior Gracie Daniels, junior Renee Schneider and sophomore Lauren Niezgoda up front along with senior Tenaj Moody on defense.

In preparation for what is arguably the toughest field hockey conference in the Nation, Wesley opens up the 2014 season with a big test when it hosts No. 19 Lynchburg College on Saturday, August 30, at 2 pm.
