A Dover woman was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital Thursday afternoon following a vehicle rollover near Dover Air Force Base.

The incident took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. Aug. 28 as the woman was driving her 2014 Ford Escape on Bay Road, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

The 42-year-old driver was headed southbound on Bay Road and turning onto Del. Route 10, Fournier said. As the Ford drove through the intersection, it continued on a path taking it into the eastbound lanes of Route 10 and drove up the embankment under the Del. Route 1 overpass, hitting a concrete wall.

The Ford rolled backward, landing on the passenger side on the eastbound side of the roadway, Fournier said.

Crews from the Dover AFB Fire Department began work to remove the woman from the crashed vehicle and were assisted by rescue personnel from the Dover Fire Department. The woman was taken by ambulance to Kent General after it was decided she was too unstable to be flown by helicopter.

Fournier had no information on the woman’s condition other than to say she had sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and have not determined if charges will be filed, he said.
