Wesley College's women's soccer team, led by head coach Ed Muntz who is entering his 20th season at the helm, has been picked to finish ninth in the Capital Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning as voted on by the head coaches.
Christopher Newport picked up half of the first place votes to take top honors, followed by Salisbury and York (Pa.) who were separated by one vote. In fourth is Frostburg State, followed by Mary Washington, St. Mary's, Marymount, Southern Virginia, the Wolverines and Penn State Harrisburg.
Wesley will be led by senior captain Chelsi Biener up front, along with junior Morgan Warrington, as well as senior Stevi Carpenter and junior Kerri Pagels in the back. Biener already ranks among Wesley's all-time leading scorers and was named All-CAC as a sophomore while Warrington and Pagels are also threats to score.
Also back are returning starters Christina Verzi, Natalie Trujillo at midfield and Chelsea Marriner in the back.
Headlining a talented incoming class are goalkeeper Nasia Denegal, forward Cassidy McSorley and midfielder Kaitlyn Ennis. Sophomore Lauren Price is also new to the squad after transferring from Division I Delaware State.
The Wolverines open the season on Saturday, August 30, when they host St. Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m.
