Nearly a week into fall sports practices, high school football squads all over the state will take to the gridiron for their first scrimmages of the 2014 season.
On Friday, 13 schools will open up their preseason schedules.
Some of the standout match ups Friday include defending State Champions Salesianum traveling to take on the Tigers from A.I. duPont who dropped to 5-5 in 2013 after a 7-3 record in 2012.
Division II runner-up St. Georges Tech will take part in Lake Forest’s Scrimmage Play Day along with Maryland school Rising Sun. Also, new Smyrna Head Coach Mike Judy will make his debut on the Eagles’ sidelines at McKean.
Tower Hill takes the first steps toward duplicating 2013’s 10-0 season hosting a Scrimmage Play Day with St. Elizabeth and Delcastle.
On Saturday, some serious Division I contenders make their debut including Caesar Rodney, Dover, Middletown, and St. Mark’s.
Middletown takes the field for the first time since being dethroned as state champs by Salesianum, traveling south to take on Cape Henlopen. Sallies’ rival St. Mark’s will open their scrimmage schedule on the road at Archmere. And Henlopen North rivals and 2013 state semifinalists Caesar Rodney and Dover also open their preseason schedules; Riders take on Indian River while Dover hosts William Penn under the lights.
While Salesianum will be in action earlier in the day, the other state champion Hodgson will be in action later that evening, traveling to take on Glasgow.
