A Dover man, identified as Christopher Porter, 32, and a man from Magnolia, identified as Martin Daniels, 33, have been arrested by Delaware State Police troopers on theft charges.
The pair were taken into custody at about 8 a.m. Aug. 14, said division spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale.
The case began at a house in the first block of Church Creek Drive when a resident called 911 after spotting a suspicious pickup truck in the driveway of a neighboring house, Hale said. The witness saw two men take an air conditioning unit, put it in the truck and drive away.
A second neighbor followed the truck and guided troopers to a location on Cherry Drive, where Porter and Daniels were arrested without incident.
The troopers discovered the air conditioner was not in the truck, but found it later in a wooded area off Plain Dealing Road.
An investigation into Porter and Daniels’ activities allowed troopers to an Aug. 8 air conditioner theft on Pardoners Tail Lane, Felton, and another the following day on Turkey Point Road, Felton.
Investigators believe Porter and Daniels may have been involved in additional thefts in the area, Hale said.
The two were charged with three counts each of theft of property valued at more than $1,500, second-degree criminal trespass, and second-degree conspiracy. They later were released on $8,250 unsecured bonds each.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or who has had an air conditioning unit stolen from their home, are asked to contact Det. S. Doherty at (302) 741-2817.
