A Dover woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old member of her family, said Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

The incident took place at 5:33 p.m. Aug. 7, in the 400 block of East Water Street, Hoffman said.

The suspect, Alyahia Durham, 18, was said to be upset about comments made by one family member about another, Hoffman said. She allegedly went to a home the victim was visiting and tried to start a fight, but was unsuccessful when the girl refused to get involved.

Durham then tried to drag the girl from the home by her hair, but also was not successful. She attacked the victim, injuring her by punching her repeatedly in the head and face.

Durham as charged with second-degree assault and trespassing, then released after posting a $1,100 secured bond.
