  • Work crews from Delmarva Power were out Monday morning fixing power lines after a dump truck struck electrical wires near Townsend.
The truck's driver, identified as William Swiggett, 67, of Dover, was cited for inattentive driving, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale.
The incident occurred at 10:25 p.m. Aug. 10, at the intersection of U.S. Route 13 and Summit Bridge Road when Swiggett's 2004 Mack dump truck  was entering the highway from an equipment storage area owned by Daisy Construction. The company is performing road work in the area.
“As the dump truck entered the roadway, it struck wires with its dump bucket which was in the up position,” Hale said.
U.S. Route 13 was closed for several hours as Delmarva Power responded to replace the pole.
