  • The complete exhibition schedule for the 2014 USABasketball Women’s National Team has been finalized and includes the USA Basketball Showcase, a Red-White intrasquad game, at 7 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 11 at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center, which along with the previously announced Sept. 15 exhibition contest versus Canada, will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

Tickets for the USA Basketball Showcase go on sale on Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. (EDT) and can be purchased through the Bob Carpenter Center box office, by calling 302-831-2257 or online via ticketmaster.com.  In addition to the domestic exhibition schedule, the USA squad will play four additional exhibition games in Europe against 2012 Olympic silver medalist France, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Australia, 2010 FIBA World Championship silver medalist Czech Republic and 2013 FIBA Asia bronze medalist China, prior to the start of the 2014 FIBA World Championship, hosted by Turkey Sept. 27 – Oct. 5.

“This is going to be an excellent kick-off to our training, especially the Red-White game in Delaware,” said Geno Auriemma, 2013-16 USA National Team and University of Connecticut head coach. “The USA Basketball Women’s

National Team pool is extremely deep and anyone not playing in the WNBA Finals will be fighting for a spot on the USA World Championship Team. That is going to make for an incredibly competitive game. You know, most of our players

say that USA National Team practices are oftentimes more competitive than any game they play and this is going to be a great opportunity for our fans to see just how hard these guys play every single day. Plus, there’s a lot at stake in terms of a roster spot, so even though it’s an intrasquad game, it’s going to be fun to watch.

“I’m also extremely excited that ESPN2 is going to be airing both of the USA’s domestic exhibition games,” said Auriemma. “For fans who are unable to get to the East Coast for these two games, they will still be able to see the team in action. Once we leave the United States, we’ll have four more games to prepare for the FIBA World Championship.”

These are going to be important to the team’s preparations, especially given our opponents. They will be four very difficult contests and I couldn’t be happier to be playing Australia, China, Czech Republic and France before we arrive in Istanbul. We played the Czechs in the last World Championship gold medal game and saw France in the Olympic gold medal game. Australia, they’re probably the best team in the world next to us, and China is always a tough opponent. All of these games -- from the Red-White exhibition in Delaware to the final exhibition in Prague -- are going to help us get

“USA Basketball is thrilled to partner with the University of Delaware and the Delaware Sports Commission for the Sept. 11 USA Women’s National Team’s Red-White exhibition game,” said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director. “Fans will have the unique opportunity to see some of our nation’s top athletes as the USA.”

National Team is showcased to the public for the first time as it prepares for the FIBA World Championship. Over the past several years, Delaware has put its name on the women’s basketball map -- thanks in part to USA National Team member Elena Delle Donne -- and we couldn’t be happier to be able to hold the 2014 USA National Team’s first

“Delaware fans are truly some of the most avid women’s basketball fans in the country,” said Elena Delle Donne, 2014-16 USA Basketball Women’s National Team member and University of Delaware alum. “Having the USA team come to town will be one of the biggest sporting events Delaware fans have ever witnessed at the Bob Carpenter Center. I can guarantee the building will be rocking with tons of spirit and support. “

“Returning to Delaware and wearing USA across my chest will be such an exhilarating moment for me,” said Delle Donne. “It has always been a dream of mine to play on the USA team, and to do it in front of fans who have been watching me play since the eighth grade is going to be so special to me. I hope it will be a special moment for the fans as well.”

“It’s an incredible honor to have the USA Basketball Women’s National Team choose Delaware as a destination for their National Showcase,” said Matt Robinson, Chairman of the Delaware Sports Commission, which led the local effort to bring the Red vs. White game to the state. “This is exactly the kind of high-profile event we are constantly working to attract, because it will benefit the state on so many levels. By bringing the game to Delaware, the DSC delivers business to our partners and to local merchants, and also gives the state national television exposure.”
