  • The 17-year-old driver of a car involved in a crash on Del. Route 1 has been admitted to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital following a Tuesday afternoon crash.
The incident took place at 4:10 p.m. July1 on the roadway immediately adjacent to the Dover Air Force Base runway near the Del. Route 9 exit, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Satchel Edeen, of Somerset, N.J., was driving a 2009 Honda Civic in a southbound lane when, for unknown reasons, the car swerved into the center median, struck an embankment and began overturning across the northbound lanes. The car hit a guardrail before coming to a stop on the shoulder.
Edeen and a 9-year-old Burlington, N.J., girl, who was a passenger in the rear seat, were thrown from the car; neither had been wearing seatbelts, Fournier said.
An 18-year-old Burlington woman in the front passenger seat was wearing her seatbelt; she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. The young girl also was treated and released from Kent General.
Edeen was moved to A.I. DuPont after first being taken to Kent General; he was admitted to the hospital in fair condition.
He was cited by state police for inattentive driving, failure to maintain a single lane and improper child restraint.
