  • Using a size-10 sandal left behind as a clue, Dover Police have arrested a suspect in a series of recent burglaries.
Brandon N. Woodlin, 30, was taken into custody June 26, said police spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.
The burglaries took place between April 30 and May 23, at the Caribbean Cuisine restaurant, King Buffet, Capitol Diner, and El Nopal Restaurant.
Surveillance photos from the May 2 King Buffet burglary, showing a black man entering the building and the fleeing in a silver Ford Expedition gave detectives their first clue. They later found a sandal left behind in a bathroom during the May 23 El Nopal burglary, Hoffman said.
Detectives spotted a silver Ford at a hotel near the King Buffet restaurant and, after obtaining a photo of Woodlin, were able to identify him from the burglary surveillance footage, Hoffman said.
It later was found Woodlin was working as a flagger for a local traffic control company, requiring him to wear the reflective pants seen in surveillance footage.
He was arrested at the Dover Police Department when he came in for questioning about the above cases. It also was learned Woodlin wears a size 10 shoe, like the sandal found at the scene of the El Nopal Burglary.
Woodlin was charged with four counts of fourth-degree burglary, four counts of theft under $1,500, two counts of criminal mischief, and single counts of wearing a disguise during commission of a felony and possession of burglar tools.
He later was released on a $26,000 unsecured bond.
Woodlin had been previously brought to the attention of local law enforcement authorities as a homeless sex offender, having been convicted in 2003 of third-degree rape.
