  • Cpl. Lloyd M. McCann, the Delaware State Police trooper wounded Wednesday in a shootout near Magnolia, has been released from the hospital.
McCann is in good spirits and resting at home, said division spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack.
The four-year DSP veteran was shot in the face and hand after stopping Dennis Hicks, 28, who had been a suspect in an assault and strangulation case earlier that morning. Hicks fired several shots at McCann after being stopped near the Linkside development north of Magnolia.
Hicks was killed in the exchange of gunfire that followed.
“The men and women of the Delaware State Police, along with Cpl. McCann’s family wish to thank the community for the tremendous outpouring of support, thoughts and prayers, during this time and his continued recovery,” Shavack said.
