Some of the Firefly Music Festival’s most electric acts are set to take the stage for the day three of the marathon concert, against a backdrop of overcast skies and a chance of light rain.
Firefly Saturday will feature 39 performances across seven stages, including major names like headliners OutKast along with Beck, Imagine Dragons, Tegan and Sara, Tune-Yards and Third Eye Blind, as well as lesser known performers like Grouplove, Sleigh Bells, Walk Off the Earth, Twenty-One Pilots and Delaware natives New Sweden.
Yet rainy conditions could impact the performance schedule, not to mention camping and festival conditions for the more than 80,000 people expected to pack The Woodlands in Dover today.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 40-percent chance of scattered showers today and a high of 77 degrees – significantly cooler and possibly more humid than the mid-80s and clear skies of Friday.
Fortunately, the sun peaked through the dark grey clouds for the first time on Saturday just as the Ceremonies took the stage on the Lawn.
“No amount of rain could keep me away,” said Dover-area resident Jennifer Rios. “I looked on Doppler (radar) this morning, and if anything, it looks like it’s only going to be a few drops. And if it does rain, we’ll figure it out.”
Rios, who’s attended all three years of Firefly, said she’s excited to catch acts like Grouplove on the Main Stage at 5:30 p.m. and Cage the Elephant at the Backyard stage at 6:15 p.m.
“The first year was really nice because there were hardly any people,” she said, referring to the roughly 40,000 attendees for the inaugural festival in 2012. “Last year, was a bit of a shock because there were so many people, but this year it feels like there are a million people but you can still move around. I’m just so glad it’s guaranteed for the next 10 years and I hope it continues beyond that. It’s great something fun in Dover, finally.”
