A man who has been seen in the neighborhood around the 200 block of North Governors Avenue is a suspect in an afternoon robbery.

The incident took place at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, said Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

The victim, a 71-year-old woman, said she was sitting on her porch when the man came up to her, demanding her money and personal belongings. The woman refused, but the suspect grabbed her blue leather purse and ran away.

The purse contained cash and numerous personal items, Hoffman said.

The suspect was described as tall and thin black man in his 20s, wearing a blue hat and gray hooded sweatshirt.

The victim said she had seen the man in her neighborhood, but did not know who he was.
