  • A 26-year-old Dover man has been released from the hospital after treatment for non-life-threatening injuries he sustained while escaping during an armed home invasion case.
The incident took place at approximately 10:40 p.m. June 11 in the unit block of Becky Lane, off South State Street, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Police went to the home after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor about gunshots coming from the home and after a man was spotted leaving the home.
The investigation showed two men had forced their way inside and confronted a 28-year-old woman and an 11-month-old child in a master bedroom. The two demanded cash and to know the whereabouts of a third person, who lives there but was not home, Fournier said.
As this went on, the victim, who was in a separate bedroom, was awakened by the noise and went into the hallway. He jumped back inside the room when one of the suspects fired a single shot at him using a handgun.
The victim went back into the bedroom and escaped through a window before making his way to the nearby Royal Farms convenience store and contacting the Kent County Emergency Operations Center.
The two suspects were spotted getting into a dark-colored four-door vehicle and driving away. They escaped without obtaining any items or money, Fournier said.
The only description given of the suspects was that the gunman was a white man.
The woman and her child were not injured, Fournier added.
