  • A Dover man has been arrested and jailed after he allegedly asked a girl for sex and then tried to strangle her.
The incident took place at 9:57 p.m. June 9, in the 300 block of Frear Drive, Dover, said Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.
Oliver Lee Hicks, 48, allegedly offered the girl the opportunity to drive his vehicle in exchange for sex, Hoffman said. The girl told an adult about the incident and when confronted, Hicks claimed she was lying; a fight then took place and Hicks grabbed the girl and tried to strangle her, Hoffman added.
Hicks was charged with sexual solicitation of a child and strangulation; he was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of a $20,000 secured bond.
