Dover Police have arrested a local man, identified as William Loper, in connection with a May 30 robbery.

A Dover man, suspected of threatening an elderly man and then stealing his money, has been arrested.

William Loper, 22, of the first block of North New Street, was taken into custody without incident on June 2, said Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

The crime took place at 4:30 a.m. May 30 in the area of South Bradford and West Reed streets, Hoffman said. Loper came up to an elderly man, asking for change; when the man was taking cash from his wallet, Loper allegedly pulled a sharp object, possibly a knife or screwdriver, and snatched the money from the victim’s hands.

Loper was charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony.

Loper was ordered held on a $100,000 secured bond.
