Caesar Rodney defeated previously unbeaten Charter 2-1 Friday night to advance to the DIAA state soccer championship against Padua Academy. The title game will be played Monday night at 7 p.m. at Smyrna High School.

Senior Lexi Prillaman scored both goals to lead Caesar Rodney to a 2-1 victory over previously undefeated Charter School of Wilmington Friday night in a DIAA semifinal match played at Caravel Academy. The victory propelled the Lady Riders to the state championship game against Padua on Monday night at Smyrna High School at 7 p.m.

After an exciting, but scoreless first half, Prillaman, and her sister Haley, went into action.

Haley directed a perfect pass to her older sister Lexi, who fired a shot past Charter goalkeeper Kaitlyn Siberski just 34 seconds after intermission.

“She sent the ball down, and it was just determination,” said Lexi Prillaman, “I just tried to work my butt off to get to that ball, and I knew when I hit it, it was going in. It was the best feeling in the world,” she said.

Charter tied the game in the 58th minute, as senior Sam Procak scored on pass from Paige DiGuglielmo, who made a long run down the sideline to set up the play.

In the 71st minute, Lexi Prillaman went to work again, this time heading in a ball off a corner kick from teammate Rachel Smith.

“I just happened to be in the right place, and I knew I had to place the ball correctly,” said Prillaman, “I was in the right spot, and I visualized it going in . . . I headed it as hard as I could, and it went in,” she said.

Charter created several good scoring opportunities late in the game, by Riders’ keeper Kristiana Stevens made several outstanding saves to preserve the victory.
