  • A memorial service to honor Lt. Col. David L. Stricker will be held at noon May 25 at the Old Methodist Cemetery, located at the intersection of West North Street and South Queen Street in Dover.

  • A memorial service to honor Lt. Col. David L. Stricker will be held at noon May 25 at the Old Methodist Cemetery, located at the intersection of West North Street and South Queen Street in Dover.
    Stricker, a Dover resident at the beginning of the Civil War, was leading troops at the Battle of Spotsylvania in Virginia when he was killed in action on May 12, 1864.
    The ceremony will feature a laying of wreaths, a reading of the names of Kent County residents killed during the American Civil War, a three volley salute and a short presentation about the 2nd Delaware troops during the war.
    The ceremony and the reception will follow the memorial service at the Delaware Public Archives, 121 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., North, Dover.
    No reservations are required and the public is invited.
