Dover Police have arrested a 17-year-old Dover resident on felony robbery charges following a Sunday evening purse snatching incident.
Christopher Sanford was arrested May 12 after he was identified on surveillance footage as being in the area of the robbery shortly before it occurred, said police spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.
The robbery took place at 6:50 p.m. May 11 in the 400 block of Webbs Lane when a suspect, later identified as Sanford, allegedly grabbed a woman’s purse.
The force of the attack caused the bag to tear and the 44-year-old victim’s wallet to fall to the ground, Hoffman said. Sanford allegedly picked up the wallet and fled. The woman was not hurt.
Sanford was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy and criminal mischief under $1,000. He later was released to a parent pending a later court date.
Police have yet to identify a suspected accomplice in the case, Hoffman said.
