Dover Fourth District City Councilman David Anderson has announced he is running for mayor in the June 17 special election.

Fourth District Dover City Councilman David L. Anderson has filed a petition to run in the June 17 special election for Dover city mayor.

Anderson filed his petition, which was verified by the Dover city clerk’s office, on Friday.

Anderson, who recently returned from a one-year tour in Afghanistan with the Delaware National Guard, was elected to council in April 2011.

He plans a kickoff campaign May 19 at Grotto Pizza.

Persons interested in running for mayor of Dover have until May 20 to file an election petition.
